Privacy policy

Effective 6 September 2026 · Android app com.o2osell.pocketscanner

Your documents stay on your device. Advertising supports the app, but advertisers do not receive your PDFs, document names, or scanned images from Pocket Scanner.

Documents and device storage

Pocket Scanner scans and imports documents, creates PDF files and thumbnails, and saves them in the app’s private storage. It does not run an account system or upload your library to a developer-operated server. Google Play services provides the document scanner and may download scanner components before first use. The app does not request broad access to your photo library or storage.

Files leave the app when you choose to share or export them using Android’s file picker or another app. The app you choose then handles the copy under its own privacy practices.

Scanner diagnostics

Google's ML Kit document scanner processes document images on your device; scanner input images and results are not sent to Google for processing. The SDK can collect device information, app package and version, device and installation identifiers, feature usage events, performance metrics, input and output sizes, and error codes for diagnostics and usage analytics. Google states that these SDK communications use HTTPS and that this diagnostic data is not shared with third parties. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure for details.

Advertising and consent

The app uses Google AdMob and Google’s User Messaging Platform. Ads appear in the document library and, occasionally, when you finish reviewing documents. Advertising does not require access to your document content.

Google’s advertising SDK may collect and share your IP address (including approximate location derived from it), device and account identifiers such as the Android advertising ID and app set ID, app and ad interactions, and performance diagnostics. Google uses this information for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. These SDK communications are encrypted in transit.

Where required, a consent message lets you choose how your data is used before ads are requested. When available, open About Pocket Scanner → Ad privacy choices to revisit your decision. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings. Choosing not to consent does not block scanning, PDF reading, sharing, or exporting; ad availability depends on Google’s consent rules.

Retention and deletion

You can delete documents from your library at any time. Uninstalling Pocket Scanner or clearing its app data removes the private library, settings, consent state, and locally stored ad frequency counters. Copies you exported or shared remain wherever you saved or sent them. Export anything you want to keep before uninstalling.

The developer does not hold a server-side copy of your document library and cannot recover deleted files. Google manages retention and deletion of advertising data under its own policies and privacy controls.

Permissions and security

Internet and network-state access support advertising, consent messages, and scanner component availability. AdMob includes Android’s advertising-ID permission. Camera capture is handled by Google Play services. App-controlled Android cloud backup is disabled for saved documents; shared copies receive a temporary read permission for the destination app.

Children and policy updates

Pocket Scanner is a general-purpose productivity tool and is not designed specifically for children. If you believe information has been handled improperly, contact us. This policy may change when app features or data practices change; the effective date above identifies the current version.
